59-year-old Alain Cesare was fatally stabbed by another tenant of the building, Étienne Laberge, 37. Following the murder, Laberge barricaded himself for more than 12 hours in his apartment, threatening police with a homemade weapon, before finally being taken into custody by a SWAT team.
