Vandalism suspect, 83, dies after beating at hands of neighbor. Roger Joseph Gionet had been hospitalized since the violent confrontation with his neighbor Sept. The report said there was a puddle of blood, a black ski mask and a hammer and drill lying near the suspect, who was wearing dark clothes and latex gloves. Gionet was in such bad shape he could only provide his name and date of birth. The homeowner told police he and his wife had returned home from a night out. He said the masked man tried twice to hit him with the hammer, but he was able to punch his attacker in the face, then grab hold of the hammer and smack him in the face with it. The homeowner told police his attacker tried to stab him with the drill, so he hit him with the hammer again and then punched and kicked him once he doubled over. A judge approved the petition, which said Gionet was known to vandalize neighbors’ property, Thursday.
