March 7th, 2015
One day after celebrating her 17th birthday, Ashlee Martinson killed her mother and step-father. Martinson alleged that her step-father was abusive to both her and her mother, writing on her Facebook page that she wanted to blow his brains out if her mother didn’t leave him. On March 7th, 2015, Martinson killed her stepfather, Thomas Ayers, with a shotgun. When her mother, Jennifer Ayers, came to investigate the gunshots, Martinson stabbed her to death. Martinson then locked her younger siblings in a closet with a supply of food and fled. The following day, Martinson’s oldest stepsister called the police. Martinson was captured, along with her 22-year-old boyfriend in Boone County, Indiana. She claimed to police that her mother killed her step-father, and that she killed her mother in self-defence. Her siblings statements disputed these claims. The night before the murder, her parents found out about her relationship with the 22-year-old Ryan Sisco, and an argument ensued. The parents threatened legal action against him. Martinson was tried as a adult on two counts of first-degree murder, and false imprisonment. She later plead not guilty by reason of insanity, and eventually accepted a plea deal of 2nd degree murder. She was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2016.
