Eric Boardman, 77, and his wife Joan Boardman, 74, were murdered in their home by serial killer Stephen Akinmurele, aka the "cul-de-sac killer". Akinmurele broke into the Boardmans’ house and waiting in a room downstairs for hours, before pouncing on Joan Boardman and strangling her. Eric Boardman was attacked by Akinmurele, when he came downstairs to find his wife lying on the ground. It is believe Eric Boardman put up a struggle before he was murdered. This struggle left vital clues that would ultimately lead to Akinmurele's capture. The bodies of Eric and Joan were discovered the following day by their daughter. Eric was found under a wardrobe in the hallway of their home and Joan was left on the living room floor.
