Shana Carter was beaten in her Grimsby home’s foyer by her common-law husband during an argument about her plans to move out. Christopher Lee Sharples, 38, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday. He was sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for a minimum of 10 years. Carter was living with Sharples and their son, now eight years old, at 4 Arrowhead Lane in Grimsby. They’d had an on-and-off again relationship since 2006. Carter was reported missing by her sister to Peel Regional Police on Dec. 11, 2010, and her remains were found on Sept. 21, 2012 in a wooded area in Blair Township south of Grundy Lake. Carter was originally from Halifax, but was living in Grimsby at the time of her disappearance.
