August 14th, 1969
This is the house where serial killer George Putt, along with his wife Mary, lived in the Summer of 1969. On August 14, Putt began his violent killing spree with the murders of Roy & Bernalyn Dumas in their Midtown apartment at 1133 S Cooper St. Eleven days later, he strangled 80 year old Leila Jackson in her Midtown home at 21 N Somerville St. Putt would wait only four days before abducting Glenda Harden near the Downtown intersection of Court Ave & Riverside Dr. She was stabbed 14 times before being left for dead in Riverside Park. Putt would take his final victim, Mary Pickens, on September 11. He snuck into her apartment at 41 N Bellevue Blvd and stabbed her twenty times. Thankfully, her neighbors heard her screams, resulting in a foot chase that would end with Putt’s capture by police. Unfortunately, Mary would not survive her injuries. Putt would purportedly watch the news with his wife in their Bethel Ave home, and comment on the graphic nature of the crimes. His crimes were extremely sexually violent, and he was known to mutilate the genitals of his victims after they had been killed.
