Brian Black Kettle worked in construction in Cold Lake, but took a trip to Calgary to visit his children. Not long after his arrival, the father of five died in hospital on July 27, 2014. Police say a man struck Black Kettle in an “unprovoked attack” at a downtown park and left him unconscious. Both men knew each other and alcohol played a role in the incident, according to investigators. Paramedics tried to save the 35-year-old but he succumbed to his injuries in hospital. An autopsy showed he died of a traumatic blow. Police charged Blaine Manywounds with manslaughter who was later acquitted of the crime.
